Description:
This is the third annual Amazing MLP Scavenger Hunt. This engaging event resembles the popular television show “The Amazing Race,” as teams of students race across a designated area of the UCLA campus to locate and complete various tasks. The challenges typically involve real-world scenarios that require the application of high school mathematics skills, including Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and basic statistics. Furthermore, there are tasks designed to assess teamwork and collaboration, which may not directly involve mathematical skills. Teams must effectively manage the demands of each task, allocate the necessary time for completion, navigate between task locations, and strategically decide whether to pursue additional bonuses along the way.
Cost: $60 per team
Registration includes:
- In Time Book
- Race Book
- Light snacks and drinks before the race
- Lunch is provided for students, teachers, and chaperones

Quotes from students and teachers:
“When doing the amazing race, I was very excited because it was my first time in a long time doing it and testing my math skills in a competitive fast paced race. I had a lot of fun and it was a pleasure to participate.” Missiah Cooper student
“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time, no matter what; this is what my team mate and I did at the amazing race and finished 6th overall!” Isis Victor, student.
“First of all, I would like to dearly thank the Math Literacy Program for inviting us out to the university. The Scavenger Hunt was very fun, and action thrilled. Me and my partner had a very fun time using the skills we’ve learned along the way in the Math Literacy Program. We enjoyed the Scavenger Hunt very much and we hope to be back soon! Thank you and have a great day.” John Rosales, student.
“The Amazing MLP Scavenger Hunt brings math to life in an engaging way for students. All of a sudden students need to know how to solve math problems because there is a purpose. When we provide a purpose, students learn. This is truly an amazing experience because the students are excited about math just like at a traditional sporting event. They are talking about math and thinking about how to improve for the competition next year.” Sam Perez, Math Teacher
